Flying Colors

With Winter on it's way, and our new residents from warmer climes, holding their breath, We are having one last beautiful finale of color.  The leaves and grass are set ablaze with yellows oranges and reds intermingled with what shades of green are still holding on.

The bears are on their last chance to fatten up for hibernation.  I have been seeing lots of black bears on my mail route lately.  I had a dog show me a cub in the tree in it's yard.

As a mail carrier we are tracked by our package scanners.  If we back up more than fifty feet the scanner informs upper management that we have an excessive reverse on our record.  The postmaster then has to treat it like a crime scene, taking pictures and asking our reasons for backing up on the job!  This rule may make sense in urban areas, where children are often playing on the streets, but on a rural route in Montana it doesn't make much sense at all.  I'm more likely to se a bear on the road than a child, and the wildlife is very good about staying out of the way, especially when you're going a bit slower, in reverse.  The other day I saw a bear on the edge of a yard, eating something on the ground.  I backed up more than fifty feet to make sure it wasn't eating the resident of that property.  It was dining on a roadkilled deer.  I think that's a legitimate excuse for my excessive reverse.

There has been a lot of color in the skies lately also.  Morning and evening both have been showing some beautiful displays.

We've gotten some real interesting videos lately!  My granddaughter asked how I was able to hold so still while videoing the Grizzlies.  I couldn't bring myself to explain how trailcams work.  So until someone tells her otherwise, she has a newfound respect for Papa.

We've been pretty busy on the farm lately, but we're trying to get out and recreate a bit.

Hopefully we can enjoy some moderate weather a little longer before road construction season is over.
